Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Hecuba is a Greek tragedy written by Euripides. The play takes place after the Trojan War and centers around the titular character, Hecuba, the former queen of Troy. Hecuba has been captured by the Greeks and is now a slave. Her husband, King Priam, has been killed and her children have been taken away from her. The play explores Hecuba's grief and her desire for revenge against the Greeks. She is visited by the ghost of her son, Polydorus, who was killed by the Greeks, and he urges her to take revenge. Hecuba then plots to kill the Greek commander, Agamemnon, and his daughter, but her plans are thwarted by the gods. The play ends with Hecuba being taken away to be a slave in Greece. Hecuba is a powerful portrayal of the horrors of war and the suffering of women in times of conflict.HECUBA: Ah me! an awful trial is nigh, it seems, fraught with mourning, rich in tears. Yes, I too escaped death where death had been my due, and Zeus destroyed me not but is still preserving my life, that I may witness in my misery fresh sorrows surpassing all before. Still if the bond may ask the free of things that grieve them not nor wrench their heart-strings, 'tis well that thou shouldst make an end and hearken to my questioning. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
