Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Jeppe of the Hill is a classic Danish play written by Ludvig Holberg in the 18th century. The story follows the life of Jeppe, a lazy and drunken peasant who is constantly abused by his wife and the local aristocrats. One day, after passing out in a field, Jeppe is mistaken for a nobleman and taken to the castle where he is treated like royalty. However, when he wakes up sober and realizes the truth, he is forced to confront the harsh reality of his life. The play is a satirical commentary on social class and the power dynamics between the ruling class and the working class. It is a timeless classic that continues to be performed and studied in Denmark and around the world.FIRST LAWYER. Your honor has it on his own admission: he got drunk and in his drunkenness committed this unheard-of outrage. All that remains is to decide whether the guilt of such a gross misdeed can be held devoid of criminal intent because of intoxication. I argue that it cannot, for if it could, neither fornication nor murder could be punished, for every criminal could seek that escape and assert that he had committed his crime while intoxicated. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
