Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

New Grub Street is a novel written by George Gissing and published in 1891. Set in London during the late 19th century, the novel explores the lives of struggling writers and journalists who are trying to make a living in the competitive world of literature. The story follows the lives of several characters, including Edwin Reardon, a talented but impoverished writer who struggles to find success; Jasper Milvain, a cynical journalist who is determined to make a name for himself; and Marian Yule, a young woman who dreams of becoming a writer but is held back by her family's expectations. As the characters navigate the challenges of their careers and personal lives, they must confront the harsh realities of poverty, social status, and the demands of the publishing industry. New Grub Street is a powerful critique of the literary world and a poignant exploration of the human condition. And as to living up at the very top, why, there were distinct advantages--as so many people of moderate income are nowadays hastening to discover. The noise from the street was diminished at this height; no possible tramplers could establish themselves above your head; the air was bound to be purer than that of inferior strata; finally, one had the flat roof whereon to sit or expatiate in sunny weather. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
