Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Protoplasm or Life, Matter and Mind is a book written by Lionel S. Beale, a renowned British physician and microscopist. The book is an in-depth exploration of the fundamental building blocks of life, including the nature of protoplasm, the relationship between life and matter, and the role of the mind in the functioning of living organisms.Beale's work is based on his extensive research in the field of cellular biology and his profound understanding of the microscopic world. He provides a detailed account of the structure and function of protoplasm, the living substance that forms the basis of all life on earth. He also discusses the concept of vitalism, the idea that living organisms possess a special life force that distinguishes them from non-living matter. The book also delves into the relationship between matter and life, exploring the ways in which living organisms interact with their environment and the role of physical laws in the functioning of biological systems. Beale argues that the laws of physics and chemistry are not sufficient to explain the complexity of living organisms, and that a deeper understanding of the nature of life is necessary to fully comprehend the workings of the natural world. Finally, Beale explores the role of the mind in the functioning of living organisms, arguing that consciousness and mental processes are integral to the functioning of the brain and nervous system. He discusses the concept of free will, the nature of perception and cognition, and the relationship between mind and body.Overall, Protoplasm or Life, Matter and Mind is a fascinating and thought-provoking exploration of the nature of life and the workings of the natural world. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the fields of biology, philosophy, or neuroscience. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
