The book explores the German education system during the First World War, and how it was used to indoctrinate young people with nationalist and militaristic ideals. Friedel draws from the French ""Pedagogie de Guerre Allemande"" (German War Pedagogy) to provide a detailed analysis of the German education system, including the role of teachers, textbooks, and extracurricular activities in shaping the minds of young Germans. The book also examines the impact of the war on education in Germany, including the use of schools as military barracks and hospitals.
