Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Life and Work of Thomas Dudley, the Second Governor of Massachusetts is a biographical account of the life and accomplishments of one of the most prominent figures in the early history of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Written by Augustine Jones, this book offers a comprehensive look at the career and personal life of Thomas Dudley, who served as governor of the colony from 1634 to 1635 and again from 1640 to 1641.Drawing on a wealth of primary source material, including letters, diaries, and official documents, Jones provides a detailed portrait of Dudley's upbringing, education, and early career as a lawyer and public servant in England. He then traces Dudley's journey to the New World, where he became a leading figure in the Puritan community and helped shape the political and social landscape of the colony.Throughout the book, Jones explores Dudley's role in key events and controversies of the time, including the founding of Harvard College, the establishment of the Massachusetts Bay Company, and the ongoing tensions between the colonists and the Native American tribes. He also delves into Dudley's personal life, including his marriage to the poet Anne Bradstreet and his relationships with his children and other family members.Ultimately, The Life and Work of Thomas Dudley offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of one of the most important figures in the early history of Massachusetts and sheds new light on the political, social, and cultural forces that shaped the colony and its people. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
