""Dr. John McLoughlin: The Father of Oregon"" by Frederick V. Holman is a biography of one of the most influential figures in the history of the Pacific Northwest. The book tells the story of McLoughlin, a Scottish-Canadian fur trader who became the chief factor of the Hudson's Bay Company in the Oregon Territory in the early 1800s.McLoughlin played a key role in the development of the region, establishing trade relationships with the Native American tribes and helping to settle the area. He also played a significant role in the political and social life of the region, serving as a justice of the peace, a member of the territorial legislature, and a supporter of the American cause during the Oregon boundary dispute. The book draws on a wealth of primary sources, including McLoughlin's personal letters and journals, to provide a detailed and insightful portrait of this remarkable man. It also explores the complex historical context in which McLoughlin lived, including the conflicts between British and American interests in the region, the impact of the fur trade on Native American communities, and the challenges of frontier life.Overall, ""Dr. John McLoughlin: The Father of Oregon"" is a fascinating and well-researched biography of a key figure in the history of the Pacific Northwest, and a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of the region or the fur trade era. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
