A Discourse Concerning Western Planting is a book written by Richard Hakluyt in 1584. The book is a detailed account of the English colonization of North America and the efforts made by the English to establish a settlement there. Hakluyt argues that the colonization of North America is essential for the expansion of English trade and commerce. He provides a comprehensive analysis of the resources available in North America, including the abundance of fish, timber, and furs. The book also discusses the challenges faced by the English in their attempts to establish a settlement in North America, including the harsh climate, the hostility of the native population, and the lack of support from the English government.
