Dunbar, The King's Advocate: A Tragic Episode In The Reformation (1884) is a historical novel written by Charles Waddie. The book is set in Scotland during the 16th century and follows the story of Gavin Dunbar, a prominent lawyer and advisor to King James V. Dunbar is a devout Catholic and a staunch opponent of the Protestant Reformation that is sweeping across Europe. However, when the King begins to embrace the new religious movement, Dunbar finds himself torn between his loyalty to the crown and his faith. As the Reformation gains momentum in Scotland, Dunbar becomes increasingly isolated and persecuted for his beliefs. He is accused of heresy and treason and is ultimately sentenced to death. The novel explores the themes of religious intolerance, political power, and personal conviction. It also provides a vivid portrayal of life in 16th century Scotland, including the political intrigues of the royal court, the religious conflicts of the era, and the harsh realities of life for ordinary people.Overall, Dunbar, The King's Advocate: A Tragic Episode In The Reformation is a compelling and thought-provoking work of historical fiction that offers a fascinating glimpse into a pivotal moment in Scottish history. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
