Extracts From The Diary Of A Workhouse Chaplain (1847) is a book written by Dennis Lewis Cousins. The book is a collection of diary entries written by the author during his time as a chaplain in a workhouse in the mid-19th century. The workhouse was a place where the poor and destitute were sent to live and work in exchange for food and shelter. The diary entries provide a glimpse into the harsh realities of life in the workhouse, including the poor living conditions, the strict rules and regulations, and the struggles of the inmates to survive. The author also reflects on his own experiences as a chaplain, including his efforts to provide spiritual guidance and support to the inmates. The book is a valuable historical document that sheds light on the social and economic conditions of the time, as well as the role of religion in the lives of the poor. It is a fascinating read for anyone interested in the history of social welfare and the experiences of the working class in the 19th century. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
