Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Voluntaryism: An Appeal From The Custom To The Conscience Of The Church is a book written by James Baldwin Brown in 1848. The book is a call to the church to embrace voluntaryism, a belief that individuals should be free to choose whether or not to support religious institutions financially. Brown argues that the practice of compulsory church tithing is not supported by the Bible and that it is a violation of individual freedom. He also contends that voluntaryism would lead to a more sincere and committed church membership, as those who give willingly are more likely to be truly dedicated to their faith. The book is a passionate plea to the church to abandon old customs and embrace a more just and equitable system of support for religious institutions. It is a landmark work in the history of religious freedom and individual liberty. With An Appendix On The New London Chapel Building Society. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
