Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Strauss and Renan: An Essay (1866) is a work by the German philosopher Eduard Zeller. The book explores the ideas and philosophies of two influential thinkers of the time, David Friedrich Strauss and Ernest Renan. Strauss was a theologian and writer who challenged traditional Christian beliefs, while Renan was a historian and philosopher who questioned the validity of religious texts. Zeller examines the similarities and differences between their ideas and argues that they both contributed to a broader movement towards secularism and rationalism in the 19th century. The book provides a detailed analysis of their works, including Strauss's controversial book The Life of Jesus Critically Examined and Renan's influential study of the origins of Christianity, The History of the Origins of Christianity. Zeller's essay is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the intellectual history of the 19th century and the development of modern thought. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
