Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Daughter: A Play In Five Acts, written by James Sheridan Knowles and first performed in 1837, tells the story of Lilla, a young woman who is forced to choose between her duty to her father and her love for a young man named Wilford. Lilla's father, Colonel Damas, is a strict military man who insists that his daughter marry a wealthy and influential man named De Courcy, even though she is in love with Wilford, a poor but honorable man. As Lilla struggles with her feelings and her sense of duty, she must also contend with the machinations of De Courcy, who will stop at nothing to win her hand. The play explores themes of love, duty, and the clash between tradition and individual desire, and features a cast of complex and compelling characters who must navigate the challenges of their society and their own hearts. With its rich language, vivid characters, and timeless themes, The Daughter remains a classic of English literature and a powerful exploration of the human heart. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
