""The Canal Boy Who Became President"" is a biography written by Frederic Thomas Gammon in 1881. The book tells the story of James A. Garfield, the 20th President of the United States, who was born into poverty and worked as a canal boy before rising to become a successful lawyer, Civil War general, and ultimately, President. The book chronicles Garfield's early life, his education, his political career, and his presidency, including his assassination just months after taking office.
