The Fourth Book of Maccabees and Kindred Documents in Syriac is a book written by Robert Lubbock Bensly in 1895. The book is a collection of ancient texts that were originally written in Syriac, a dialect of Aramaic, and translated into English. The texts include the Fourth Book of Maccabees, which is a Jewish work that describes the martyrdom of seven brothers and their mother during the reign of the Seleucid king Antiochus IV Epiphanes. In addition to the Fourth Book of Maccabees, the book also includes other Syriac texts that are related to the Maccabean period, including the Letter of Aristeas, the Book of Enoch, and the Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs. The texts provide valuable insights into Jewish history, culture, and religion during the Hellenistic period.Bensly's book includes an introduction that provides historical and literary context for the texts, as well as notes and commentary on the translation. The book is an important resource for scholars of biblical studies, ancient history, and Syriac literature. With An Introduction And Translations. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
