The Incidental Bishop is a novel written by British author Grant Allen and published in 1902. The story revolves around the life of a man named John Walden, who is unexpectedly appointed as the Bishop of St. David's. He is a simple man who has led a quiet life as a country parson and is not prepared for the challenges that come with being a bishop. As he struggles to adapt to his new role, he finds himself caught up in a web of political intrigue and power struggles within the church. He also has to deal with personal issues, such as his love for a woman who is already married and his own doubts about his faith. The novel is a satirical take on the Church of England and its hierarchy, as well as a commentary on the role of religion in society. It is also a character study of John Walden, who is portrayed as a flawed but sympathetic figure struggling to do what is right in a world that is often confusing and contradictory.Overall, The Incidental Bishop is a thought-provoking and entertaining novel that explores themes of power, faith, and morality in a witty and insightful manner. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
