Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Characters of Theophrastus is a collection of short character sketches written by the ancient Greek philosopher and scholar Theophrastus. Originally written in the 3rd century BCE, this book was translated into English in 1824 by the British scholar and classicist Thomas Taylor. The book contains 30 character sketches, each describing a different type of person. These sketches are meant to be humorous and satirical, and they often poke fun at the flaws and quirks of human nature. Some of the characters described in the book include the Flatterer, the Boastful Man, the Coward, the Superstitious Man, and the Unlucky Man.Despite being written over 2,000 years ago, many of the character sketches in The Characters of Theophrastus still resonate with readers today. The book provides a fascinating glimpse into the social and cultural attitudes of ancient Greece, and it remains a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of philosophy, literature, or psychology.Translated From The Greek And Illustrated By Physiognomical Sketches, To Which Are Subjoined The Greek Text, With Notes, And Hints On The Individual Varieties Of Human Nature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
