Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The Memoirs of Captain George Carleton and the Life and Adventures of Mrs. Christian Davies is a book written by Daniel Defoe and published in 1840. The book is a collection of two separate memoirs, both of which are based on the true stories of their titular characters. The first memoir, that of Captain George Carleton, is a detailed account of his experiences as a British soldier during the 17th century. Carleton fought in several battles, including the Siege of Derry and the Battle of the Boyne, and his memoir provides a firsthand account of these events. He also describes his experiences as a prisoner of war in France, and his eventual return to England. The second memoir, that of Mrs. Christian Davies, tells the story of a woman who disguised herself as a man in order to fight in the British army during the 18th century. Davies fought in several battles, including the Battle of Ramillies and the Battle of Oudenarde, and her memoir provides a unique perspective on the experiences of women in the military during this time period.Overall, The Memoirs of Captain George Carleton and the Life and Adventures of Mrs. Christian Davies is a fascinating historical account of two individuals who lived extraordinary lives. Defoe's writing style is engaging and informative, and the book provides a valuable insight into the social and political climate of Britain during the 17th and 18th centuries. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
