It names 146 places across 298 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries two casualty and personnel returns, one report or narrative, three appendices and one diagram. Among the papers are: 2nd Cavalry Division Battle casualties during the period Nov 20th to Dec 6th 1917; 2nd Cav. Div. Battle casualties Aug 8 to 12 1918; Routine orders by Major-General H. De La P Gough. C.B., Commanding 2nd Cavalry Division..The diary opens at Rouen on 1 September 1914. 1914 is spent at Vieux Berquin, Braine, Kemmel, St Jans Cappel and Board Glenarm Head. 1915 is the most travelled year, 122 places against 39 in the next busiest, and is spent at Vieux Berquin, Thiembronne, Roquetoire, Ebblinghem and Wizernes. 1916 at Dompierre, Lumbres, Hazebrouck, Thiembronne and Samer. 1917 at Dompierre, Houvin-Houvigneul, Roisel, St. Sauflieu and Quevauvillers. 1918 at Grenas, Montcavrel, Quevauvillers, Marche and Athies. 1919 at Theux, Heusy, Montcavrel, Le Cauroy and Wail. It closes at Montcavrel on 31 July 1919. Vieux Berquin is where it spent longest, 244 days across twelve separate stays, it came back to Ebblinghem nineteen separate times, and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 62 days at Thiembronne.In 1914 it is also recorded at Glenarm Head, Nantes, B.H.V. Nantes, A.D.V.S. base office Nantes, Le Mans, Ville Neuve, Fere En Tardenois, Lime, Fleury and Verberie. In 1915 it is also recorded at St. Omer, Blendecques, Hazebrouk, Esquelberquin, Steenvoorde, Esquelbecq, Le Nieppe, Near Reneseure, Staple and By Houck. In 1916 it is also recorded at Hezebrouck, Hazebruck, St Venant, Monchy Cayeux, Willeman, Frohen-Le-Grand, Vignacourt, La Houssoye and N. of Bray. In 1917 it is also recorded at Wavans, Henu, Agny, Rhonville, Frohen-Le-Grand, St. Ouend, Bossy-Les-Daours,, Lamotte En Santerre, Courcelles and Suzanne. In 1918 it is also recorded at Quesmy, Pontoise, Bailly, Royalieu, Jonquieres, Ansauvillers, Boves, Rivery, Ailly-Le-Haut Clocher and Auxi-Le-Chateau.
