Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the 4th (Queen's Own) Hussars, 5 (Royal Irish) Lancers and 16 (The Queens) Lancers, 3 Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, covering August 1914 to April 1919 across 642 pages. It names 318 places across 490 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries one list of honours and awards, six casualty and personnel returns, two reports, narratives and plans, one appendix and four maps. Among the papers are: List of Recipients of Decorations for operations Commencing 21-3-18 and Summary; Missing; Casualties during October; Casualties during January-February 1916; Narrative of an operation carried out by O.C. "C" Sqdn., 16th Lancers on August 24th 1918; Operation order Appendix "A".The diary opens at Curragh on 4 August 1914. 1914 is spent at Noote Boom, Braine, Elouges, Hollebeke and Curragh. 1915 at Vaudringhem, Mametz, Blessy, Staple and Souverain. 1916 at Wavrans, Vaudringhem, Elnes, Noyelles and Sec Bois. 1917 at Maintenay, Fins, Raye, Rebreuviette and Boucly. 1918 is the most travelled year, 124 places against 89 in the next busiest, and is spent at Tubersent, Brie, Beutin, S.W. of Amiens and Divion. 1919 at Amay, Sprimont, Remouchamps And Aywaille, and Aywaille and Remouchamps. It closes at Antwerp on 27 April 1919. Vaudringhem is where it spent longest, 272 days across six separate stays, it came back to Maintenay seven separate times, and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 99 days at Wavrans.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Railway Support Trench, Chateau Segard, G H Q 2nd Luie Trenches, Bourlon Wood, Trenches S. E of Zillebeke, Trenches & Ypres, D2 Trenches M X 23 and D2 Trenches.In 1914 it is also recorded at Marlborough Bks Dublin, Dublin, S.S Atlantian, Havre, Coursolnes, Jeumont, Cousolre, Bray, Wargnies-Le-Grand and Catillon. In 1915 it is also recorded at Outtersteene, Herbelle, In Trenches S. E of Zillebeke, Ypres, Trenches & Ypres, Remilly, Le Parc, Doulieu, La Couronne and Estaires. In 1916 it is also recorded at Desvres, Bethune, Novelles, Vermelles, Font Lini, Curley Crescent, Reninghelst, Chateau Segard, Rue Du Bois and Vieux Berquin. In 1917 it is also recorded at Argonles, Petit Clemin, Les Brebis, Argoules, Gaudiempre, Bazeque, Angy, Ronville, Humbercamps and Warlincourt. In 1918 it is also recorded at Railway Support Trench, Harqicourt & Villeret, St. Christ, Villeret & Hargicourt, Prouzel, Pissy, Vermand, Maissemy, Grandru and Grand Dru. In 1919 it is also recorded at Remouchamps and Ville Ref.
