Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabineers) and 1/1 (Queen's Own) Oxfordshire Hussars, 4 Cavalry Brigade, 2nd Cavalry Division, covering August 1914 to August 1919 across 632 pages. It names 346 places across 474 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries two reports, narratives and plans and two maps. Among the papers are: Report by 4th Cavalry Brigade of raid carried out by C Squadron Oxford Hussars, at 12.30; Special order of the Day by His Majesty the King.The diary opens at Fillievres on 1 August 1914. 1914 is spent at Queens Own Oxfordshire Hussars, S of Bailleul, Fillievres, Vauxcere and Hautmont. 1915 at Roquetoire, Lottinghem, Lynde, Lieres and Therouanne. 1916 at Lottinghem, Morbecque, L'Hoffand and Doulieu Neighbourhood. 1917 at Vaulx Le Ponchel Willencourt, Le Boisle and La Broye, Conchy sur Canche, Brusle and Fillievres. 1918 is the most travelled year, 160 places against 98 in the next busiest, and is spent at Attin, Clenleu, Chaudfontaine, Loeuilly and Namps au Mont. 1919 at Trooz, Pepinster, Chaudfontaine, La Rochette and Elsdorf. It closes at Canterbury on 16 August 1919. Vaulx Le Ponchel Willencourt is where it spent longest, 243 days, including a single unbroken stay of 243 and it came back to Lottinghem nine separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Dessart Wood, Trenches Near Potijze, Toine Wood, Trenches W of Oostaverne, Cote Wood, Trenches S E of Ypres, Trenches in Sanctuary Wood and Trenches Sector C II.In 1914 it is also recorded at Rouen, Lempire, Roui Le Grand, Crecy, Dives, Verberie, Fontaine, Mesnil Amelot, Lognes and L'Eping Farm 3/4 mile SE of Mormant. In 1916 it is also recorded at Ligny Lez Aire, Bethune, Sailly Labourse, Noyelles, In Trenches Sector C II, Curly Crescent, Vermelles, Novelles, D.G.I. Noyelles and Lottinghem Bonningues. In 1917 it is also recorded at Support Line Cote Wood, Vaulx Willencourt Leponchel, Vron, Quend Le Jeune, Bealcourt, Arcoules to Mezerolles, Mezerolles to Pas, Pas to Wailly, Wailly and Arras.
