It names 117 places across 180 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries eight reports, narratives and plans, one Operation Order, one appendix, four maps and 75 diagrams. Among the papers are: 1st Imperial Division instructions Regarding Communications; Code Sheet for use on Day of Attack. No. 9 Only; Signal instructions No. 2; Signal instructions No. 1; 1st Division instructions No. 6.March to the Rhine.The diary opens at Aldershot on 5 August 1914. 1914 is the most travelled year, 84 places against 21 in the next busiest, and is spent at Merris, Bourg, Hooge, Bethune and Aldershot. 1915 is spent at Vaudricourt, Locon, Marles, Hinges and Bethune Report Centre at Beuvry by Day. 1916 at Braquemont, Fricourt Farm, Albert, Montigny and Moyenville. 1917 at Chuignolles, Mericourt-Sur-Soulnel, Albert, Coxyde Bains and Le Clipon. 1918 at Namur & March 1/100,000, N of St Quenlin, Vaux Andigny-Fresnoy, Wood. K 2.5 c 2.5 and Monchy Cayeux. 1919 at Rheinbach Germany, Wesserling and Wesseling Germany. It closes at Keninel park camp camp 8 on 31 July 1919. Rheinbach Germany is where it spent longest, 96 days, including a single unbroken stay of 59 and it came back to Bourg eight separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Fricourt Farm, Wood. K 2.5 c 2.5 and Chateau on Dickebusch road.In 1914 it is also recorded at Southampton, Off Havre, Roven, La Bruyere, Le Nouvion, St Hilaire Lepave Beaufort, Le Pave, Maubeuge, Rouveroy and Bettignies. Via Les Bas Vents to Feignies. In 1915 it is also recorded at Beuvry, Bethune, Lacouture, Sailly-Labourse and Verquin. In 1916 it is also recorded at Bruay, Flesselles, St Gratien, Moulin Vivier Near Meaulte, Henencourt, Baizeux, La Chaussee, Saint-Sauveur, Baizieux and Millencourt. In 1917 it is also recorded at Fricourt Camp Albert, Baizieux, Becquincourt, Villers-Brettonneux, The move to Berthen, Berthen, Hazebrouck, Coudekerque Branche, St. Desbalde and Rosendael. In 1918 it is also recorded at Barlin. In 1919 it is also recorded at Rheinbach and Wesseling.
