It names 122 places across 190 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries one casualty and personnel return, five reports, narratives and plans, two maps and 99 diagrams. Among the papers are: Casualties; Report on operations from 27th September 2nd Signal Co. R.E; 1st Army Intelligence Summary, No 14; Report on Cancelled Were for telephones; Communications during a Gas attack.The diary opens at Mobilization on 7 August 1914. 1914 is the most travelled year, 55 places against 35 in the next busiest, and is spent at Hazebruck, Potijze, Bourg, Ypres and Hooge. 1915 is spent at Bethune, Locon, Cuinchy S. of La Bassee Road, Le Quesnoy and Noyelles. 1916 at Sains-En-Gohelle, Couin, Brailly, Busnes and Bertrancourt. 1917 at Locon, Usna Hill, Roclincourt, Labeuvriere and Haplincourt. 1918 at La Bazeque Wood, Etricourt, Bavincourt, Haplincourt and Bretencourt. It closes at Duren on 31 December 1918. Bethune is where it spent longest, 178 days across eleven separate stays and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 34 days at Hazebruck.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include La Bazeque Wood, Chateau De La Haie and Oulchy Le Chateau.In 1914 it is also recorded at Aldershot, Southampton, Alsea, Rouen, Etreux, Wassigny, Maroilles, Pont-Sur-Sambre, Quevy Le Petit and Frameries Givry Road. In 1915 it is also recorded at Quesnoy, Noyelles Les Vermelles and Busnes. In 1916 it is also recorded at Bethune, Bruay, Dieval, Chateau De La Haie, Camblain L'abbe, Minden Post, Citadel, Treux, Belloy Sur Somme and Vignacourt. In 1917 it is also recorded at Bernaville, Marieux, West Miraumont Road, Hedauville, Contay, Beauval, Ramecourt, Pernes, Beugin and Hamte Aveshes. In 1918 it is also recorded at Etricourt 57 C, Barastre, Beaulencourt, Le Sars, Miraumont, Auchonvillers, Bertrancourt, Varennes, Neuvillette and Flers.
