Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the 13th Battalion, Essex Regiment, 6 Infantry Brigade, 2nd Division, covering November 1915 to January 1918 across 377 pages. It names 145 places across 214 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries one report or narrative, fourteen Operation Orders, two defence schemes and five diagrams. Among the papers are: Narrative of operations on 28th April, 1917.The diary opens at Terham Down Camp Andauer on 16 November 1915. 1915 is spent at Le Preol, Baulogne France, Essars and Terham Down Camp Andauer. 1916 at Gapennes, Bertrancourt, Courcelles, Bois Du Warnimount and Bruay. 1917 is the most travelled year, 105 places against 83 in the next busiest, and is spent at Roclincourt, Gorre, Lozinghem and Left Subsector. 1918 at Rocquigny, Metz and Right Sub. It closes at Right Sub on 31 January 1918. Gapennes is where it spent longest, 40 days, including a single unbroken stay of 31 and it came back to Gorre eight separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Breslau Support Trenches, Mailly Wood East, Delville Wood, Trenches Mine Alley, Trones Wood, Loupart Wood, Welcome Wood and Waterlot Farm Section.In 1915 it is also recorded at Terham Down Camp, Le Pieriere France, Bethune France and Annezin. In 1916 it is also recorded at Manqueville, Les Choquaux, Gorre, Les Chocquaux, Village Line C.2, Sub Section C2, Les Harisoirs, Pt Sains, Bully Grenay and Calonne L Sect. In 1917 it is also recorded at Boisbergues, Rancheval, Bouzincourt, Wolfe Huts Ovillers, Right Subsector, Ovillers Huts, Albert, Loupart, Dyke Valley Camp and Courcelette Camp. In 1918 it is also recorded at Rocquigny & Metz and Metz-Right Sub Sector Left Brigade.
