Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment) 17th Battalion and Machine Gun Company, 6 Infantry Brigade, 2nd Division, covering March 1916 to February 1919 across 385 pages. It names 147 places across 194 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries five reports, narratives and plans, thirteen Operation Orders, one appendix and seven diagrams. Among the papers are: Report on the operation from March 21.1918 to March. 31.1918; Further report on the operation At Pys on March 25th, 1918; Fire Orders., 6th. Machine Gun Coy; Guns for Barrage; Relief Table 9/10 Dec 1917.The diary opens on 1 March 1916. 1916 is spent at Gapennes, Mailley Maillet and Puichvillers. 1917 at Givenchy, Hurionville, Houtkerque, Moeuvres and Bray. 1918 is the most travelled year, 104 places against 44 in the next busiest, and is spent at Ayette, La Vacquerie, Monchy, Barly and Adinfer Wood. 1919 at Duren and Leichlingen. It closes at Leichlingen on 28 February 1919. Givenchy is where it spent longest, 86 days across five separate stays, it came back to Ayette eight separate times, and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 42 days at Duren.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Adinfer Wood, Velu Wood, Flot Farm, Mill Cross and Aveluy Wood Frontline.In 1916 it is also recorded at Counceller All Bois, Bus Au Artois, Hebuterne Sector Bus. Les. Artois, Bertrancourt, Mailly Maillet, Beaussart, Mavily-Maillet, Serre, Louvencourt and Authieule. In 1917 it is also recorded at Grimont, Puchevillers, Aveluy, Bouzincourt, Usna Hill, 6th Inf. Bde, Albert, Warloy. Billon, La Vicogne and Occoches. In 1918 it is also recorded at Cambrai Front Moeuvres, Racquigny, Metz, La Vacuerie, Divisional Reserve Metz, Lavacquerie Support, La Vaquerie Left, Support Line Villers Plouich, Frontline Lavaquerie Center and Support Line Mes Villers Plovich.
