Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Brigade Machine Gun Company, 12 Infantry Brigade, 4th Division, covering January 1916 to January 1918 across 254 pages. It names 85 places across 115 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries three reports, narratives and plans, ten Operation Orders and one defence scheme. Among the papers are: 12th Machine Gun Company Copy of Final report on Co-operation of No 12 Machine Gun; Relief order 12th Machine Gun Company Appendix B; Amendment to No. 12 Machine Gun Company operation order No. 22.The diary opens at Ailly Le Haut Clocher on 24 January 1916. 1916 is spent at Bailleulval, Bertrancourt, Le Plouy, Colincamps and Cumont Farm. 1917 is the most travelled year, 61 places against 39 in the next busiest, and is spent at Penin, Arras, Sailly-Laurette, Trenches Monchy and Line Monchy Right Sub-Sector. 1918 at Line Monchy Left-Sub-Sector, Line Monchy Right Sub-Sector and Bois-Des-Boeuffs. It closes at Line Monchy Right Sub-Sector on 31 January 1918. Penin is where it spent longest, 58 days across three separate stays, including a single unbroken stay of 49 and it came back to Arras seven separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Trenches Monchy, Marrieres Wood, Cumont Farm, Mailly-Maillet And Trenches, Farm At D18b3.7 Near Houtkerque, Junction Wood Marrieres Wood, Farm At D18b3.7 and Trenches Moncy.In 1916 it is also recorded at Halloy, Puschvillers, Acheux, Mailly-Maillet, Sailly-Au-Bois, Bouquemaison, Barly, Le Sovich, Gorges and Beauval. In 1917 it is also recorded at Bray, Suzanne, Curlu, Junction Wood Marrieres Wood, Marrieres Wood, Loiter Camp, Camp 117, Corbie, Montonvillers and Beauval.
