Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the 5th Battalion, King's (Shropshire Light Infantry), 42 Infantry Brigade, 14th Division, covering May 1915 to February 1918 across 245 pages. It names 117 places across 164 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries six reports, narratives and plans and three Operation Orders. Among the papers are: Report on Relief on night of 11th-12th February of 31 & 32; Complementary Order.; Battalion orders 5th King's Shropshire Light Infantry; Operation orders 5th King's Shropshire Light Infantry; Operation orders Lobe.The diary opens at Aldershot on 9 May 1915. 1915 is spent at Ypres, Zwynland, Houtkerque, Vlamertinghe and Aldershot. 1916 at Elverdinghe, Dainville 51 C France, Ivergny, Arras France and Vergies. 1917 is the most travelled year, 68 places against 45 in the next busiest, and is spent at Messines, Puchevilliers, Ronville, Nr Bailleul and Dainville France 51 C. 1918 at Suzanne, Jussy, Guerbigny and Beine. It closes at Jussy on 7 February 1918. Ypres is where it spent longest, 70 days across eleven separate stays and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 44 days at Zwynland.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Nepal Trench, Delville Wood Albert, Panther & Pore Trenches, Dug-Outs S.W. of Ypres, Trenches E. Of Ypres and Halt Way House & Trenches.In 1915 it is also recorded at Ostrohove Rest Camp Boulogne, Erkelsbrugge, Eecke, Dug-Outs 2 Miles S W of Ypres, Dug-Outs S.W. of Ypres, Canada Huts, Locre, Trenches E. Of Ypres, Ypres Ramparts and Busseboom. In 1916 it is also recorded at Bradhoek, Brandhoek, Berteaucourt Les-Dames, Grand Rullecourt, Sombrin France, Berneville France, Ronville, Arras, Achicourt and Blangy 51B France. In 1917 it is also recorded at G. Left. Sector Agny 51. B.S.W, Agny, G Left Agny, G Left Sector Achicourt & Arras, Arras 51B, Arras & Ronville, H. Left Sector, N. Left, Ronville 51. B and Dainville France 51 C & Ronville.
