Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the 97 Field Company Royal Engineers, Divisional Troops, 21st Division, covering September 1915 to April 1919 across 234 pages. It names 120 places across 149 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries two maps and two diagrams.The diary opens at Havre on 11 September 1915. 1915 is spent at Armentieres, Armentiers, Strazeele, Ganspette and Rambert. 1916 at Noyelles Les Vermelles, Ville, Armentiers, Arras and Armentieres. 1917 at Boiry Becquerelle, Ridge Wood, Marles Les Mines, Hamelincourt and Boiry St Martin. 1918 is the most travelled year, 49 places against 31 in the next busiest, and is spent at Beaussart, Cavillon, Lieramont, Berlaimont and Beauquesne. 1919 at Oissy, Long Le Catelet and Havre. It closes at Havre on 29 April 1919. Armentiers is where it spent longest, 90 days across three separate stays, it came back to Noyelles Les Vermelles four separate times, and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 49 days at Oissy.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Ridge Wood, North of Bernafay Wood, Elzenwalle Chateau, Judas Farm, R.E. Farm, Chateau Segard, Clairfaye Farm and South of Fricourt wood.In 1915 it is also recorded at St. Omer, Wittes, Lespresses, Noeux Les Mines, Noyelles Les Vermelles, 2000 S.E. of above, Bethune, Estree Blanche and Steenbecque. In 1916 it is also recorded at Bailleul, Longueau, Cardonnette, Bonnay, Becourtvalley, Argoeuvres, Saisseval, South of Fricourt wood, Buire and Allonville. In 1917 it is also recorded at G Camp Poperinghe, Bethune, Noyellrs, Rubecq, Gonnehem, Fontaine, Monneville, Hautecut, Halloy and Ransart. In 1918 it is also recorded at Hangest-Sur Somme, Locre, R.E. Farm, Chateau Segard, Ouderdom, Poperinghe, Steenvoorde, Lederzeele, Rail and Serzy Savigny.
