Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Brigade Machine Gun Company, 109 Infantry Brigade, 36th Division, covering January 1916 to January 1918 across 282 pages. It names 67 places across 86 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries nine reports, narratives and plans, five Operation Orders and one defence scheme. Among the papers are: Operation orders for Co-Operation of the 109th Machine Gun Company; Operation orders 109th M.Gun Company; H.E.G. operation order No. 14th April 1917; U.E.G. operation order No 6; 109th Machine Gun Coy operation order for Releif of 8 Guns Under; Company operation orders 109th Machine Gun Coy; Company operation order (No11) 109th Machine Gun Coy; Administrative instructions 109th Machine Gun Company.The diary opens at Fienvillers on 23 January 1916. 1916 is spent at Dranoutre, Martinsart, Varennes, Romarin and Kortepyp. 1917 is the most travelled year, 49 places against 20 in the next busiest, and is spent at Kortepyp, Kemmel, Moolenacker, Quercamp and Wakefield Huts Nr Locre Belgium. 1918 at Hangard, Balatre and Happencourt. It closes at Happencourt on 31 January 1918. Kortepyp is where it spent longest, 82 days across three separate stays, it came back to Dranoutre four separate times, and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 31 days at Romarin.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Thiepval Wood, Velu Wood, Wieltje Dugouts, Thiepval Wood And German Trenches N.E, Spanbroeke Salient and Gordon Castle Thiepval Wood.In 1916 it is also recorded at Mailly Mallet, Thiepval Wood, Gordon Castle Thiepval Wood, Hedauville, Herissart, Candas, Conteville, Racquinghem, Quelmes and Bollezeele. In 1917 it is also recorded at Fontain Houck, Hazebrouck, Wizernes, Onthi March Wizernes, Spanbroke, Spanbroeke Sawent, Spanbroeke Salient, Tyrone Fm, Wakefield Lines and Wakefield Camp.
