Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the 9th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment), 117 Infantry Brigade, 39th Division, covering March 1916 to September 1918 across 57 pages. It names 31 places across 42 dated entries.The diary opens at Trenches Hulluch Sector North on 1 March 1916. 1916 is spent at Hulluch Sector South, Hulluch Sector Support, Hulluch Sector North and Hulluch South. 1918 is the most travelled year, 31 places against 11 in the next busiest, and is spent at Bracquemont, Mazingarbe, St Elie N, St Elie Section and Posen Locality Chalk Pit. It closes at Near Villers-Les-Cagnicourt on 30 September 1918. Bracquemont is where it spent longest, 27 days, including a single unbroken stay of 20 and it came back to Mazingarbe five separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Trenches Hulluch Sector North.In 1916 it is also recorded at Mazingarbe, Line Locality, Lone Locality and Hulluch. In 1918 it is also recorded at Hulluch-Left Sub-Sector, Hulluch Right Sub, Left Sub, Lone Locality, Vermelles, Braquemont, Hay Locality, Line Locality, Right Bn Left Brigade and Bois Du Froissart Near Hersin.
