It names 52 places across 98 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries one list of honours and awards, one casualty and personnel return, 41 reports, narratives and plans, 138 Operation Orders, five defence schemes, one appendix and six maps. Among the papers are: Presentation of awards; 140th Infantry Brigade casualties September 10/20th (Inclusive).; Report on Operations. Sept. 15/20, 1916; Order for 6.7.8th Battalion to order to Bethune; 140th Infantry Brigade instructions; Schedule of Reliefs; Preliminary operation order; Appendix a to 140th Infantry Brigade operation order No. 24; Procedure of Gas attack; March Table to 140th Infantry Brigade operation order No. 50; Relief Table issued with operation order No. 59; Instructions for Work.The diary opens at Watford on 16 March 1915. 1915 is spent at Les Brebis, Mazingarbe, Labeuvriere, Lillers and Loisne. 1916 is the most travelled year, 53 places against 32 in the next busiest, and is spent at War Diary Appendix IV, Ypres, Les Brebis, Gouy Servins and Busseboom. It closes at Busseboom on 31 December 1916. War Diary Appendix IV is where it spent longest, 368 days, including a single unbroken stay of 368 and it came back to Les Brebis six separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Chateau D'Acq and Chateau Labeuvriere.In 1915 it is also recorded at Auchel, Allouagne, Bethune, Chateau Labeuvriere, Noyelles Les Vermelles, Noeux Les Mines, Haillicourt, North Maroc, Verquin and Philosophe. In 1916 it is also recorded at Sailly-La-Bourse, Verquin, Bully Grenay, Lillers, Erny St Julien, Delettes, Fiefs, Divion, Villers Au Bois and Fresnicourt.
