Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the 9th Battalion, Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment), 154 Infantry Brigade, 51st Division, covering January 1916 to January 1918 across 203 pages. It names 103 places across 137 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries eleven reports, narratives and plans, four Operation Orders, six maps and two diagrams. Among the papers are: Battalion report on operations; Amendment to operation order No. 70; Instructions for Offensive No.1; Appendix I to instructions for Offensive operation I 2; Instructions for Offensive operations I 2; Report on Communications; Relief Table; Operation order No. 143.The diary opens at Vaux on 1 January 1916. 1916 is the most travelled year, 73 places against 46 in the next busiest, and is spent at Etrun, Ecurie, Bertrancourt, Beauquesne and Baizieux. 1917 is spent at Morlay, Izel-Le-Hameau, Fremicourt, Wulverdinghe and Ecoivres Huts. 1918 at Bailleulval, Fremicourt, Lebucquiere and Courcelles Le Comte. It closes at Bailleulval on 31 January 1918. Ecurie is where it spent longest, 31 days across six separate stays and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 18 days at Bertrancourt.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Trenches East Of Auchonvillers, Mametz Wood, Armentiers Trenches, Trenches & Ecurie, Trenches North Of River Lys, Armentieres Trenches, Mailly Wood Bivouacs and Dugouts W Of Courcelette.In 1916 it is also recorded at Suzanne, Etinehem, Pierrgot, Doullens, Ivergny, Maroveil, Trenches & Ecurie, Maroueil, Chelers and Le Souich. In 1917 it is also recorded at Ovillers Huts, Wolfe Huts, Val De Maison, Fienvillers, Oneux, Lamotte-Buleux, Marche-Ville, Buire-Au-Bois, Blangerval and Bailleul.
