Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Highland Light Infantry 5th (City of Glasgow) Battalion (Territorial), 157 Infantry Brigade, 52nd Division, covering July 1917 to May 1919 across 188 pages. It names 47 places across 53 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries two casualty and personnel returns, seven reports, narratives and plans, sixteen Operation Orders and three maps. Among the papers are: 1/5th Battalion Highland Light Infantry nominal roll of officers; 5th Battn H.L.I. Warning order No. 8; 5th Battn H.L.I. Warning order No. 23; 5th H.L.I. Administrative instructions for order No. 10; 5th H.L.I. Administrative instructions to order No. 13.The diary opens at Bois D'Olhain Barlin on 30 July 1917. 1917 is spent at Bois D'Olhain Barlin and Ecurie Wood Camp Near Roclincourt. 1918 at Erbisoeuil, Vimy, Willerval, Lignereuil and Noreuil. 1919 at Erbisoeul, Soignies, Maizieres, Dunkirk and Southampton. It closes at Southampton on 5 May 1919. Erbisoeuil is where it spent longest, 80 days, including a single unbroken stay of 80 and it came back to Vimy three separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Chateau De La Haie.In 1918 it is also recorded at Castle Hill, Sarona, Surafend, Kantara, Sidi Bishr, Marseille, St. Valery, Berguette, La Lacque and Neuville St Vaast.
