Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the Brigade Machine Gun Company, 164 Infantry Brigade, 55th Division, covering February 1916 to February 1918 across 156 pages. It names 66 places across 104 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries two reports, narratives and plans, two Operation Orders, one appendix and three maps. Among the papers are: Operation report of 164 M.G. Coy; 164th Machine Gun Company Preliminary order.The diary opens at Saulty on 19 February 1916. 1916 is spent at Le-Fermont, Fermont, Ypres, Brandhoek and Kaaie. 1917 is the most travelled year, 49 places against 39 in the next busiest, and is spent at Capelle Sur La Lys, Auden Fort, Left Bde, Brandhoek and Tincourt. 1918 at Canal, Drouvin, Capelle Sur La Lys, Enquin Les Mines and Le Hamel. It closes at Canal on 28 February 1918. Brandhoek is where it spent longest, 60 days across ten separate stays and the longest it stayed anywhere without moving was 49 days at Capelle Sur La Lys.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Trenches Near Trones Wood, Quarry At Barnafay Wood, Goldfish Chateau and Bonafay Farm.In 1916 it is also recorded at Gouy In Artois, Daineville, Barly, Near Troneswood, In Trenches Near Trones Wood, Guillemont, Near Bonafay Farm, Mericourt, Cahon Somme and Camp Near Albert Amiens Road. In 1917 it is also recorded at Ypres Rt. Bde, S Camp, Bollezeele, Left Brigade, Kaie Left Bde, L Camp, Houtkerque, Noordpeene, Hellebroucq and Zutove.
