Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the 282 and 283 Brigade Royal Field Artillery, Divisional Trench Mortar Batteries and Divisional Ammunition Column, Divisional Troops, 56th Division, covering October 1915 to May 1919 across 285 pages. It names 130 places across 197 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries one casualty and personnel return, twenty-one reports, narratives and plans, two Operation Orders, two appendices and one map. Among the papers are: Roll of officers Left Behind with Details; Daily report on enemy Artillery; Appendix No.3 6" Medium Trench Mortar report of the operations of the 28th March 1918; Appendix to 56th Divisional Artillery operation order No. 66.The diary opens at Bordon on 1 October 1915. 1915 is spent at Arqoeuves, Bonneville, Sailly and Vaux-En-Amienois. 1916 is the most travelled year, 74 places against 36 in the next busiest, and is spent at Henu, Bienvillers, Souastre, Wamin and Vermelles. 1917 at Morchies, Agny, H.35 Central, Ligny St. Flochel and Achiecourt. 1918 at Simencourt, Ciply, Onnezies, Montenescourt and Cambligneul. 1919 at Hyon-Ciply, Ciply and Jemappes. It closes at Jemappes on 28 May 1919. Ciply is where it spent longest, 142 days, including a single unbroken stay of 111 and it came back to Simencourt seven separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Chateau La Haie and Chateau De La Haie.In 1915 it is also recorded at Havre, Southampton, Vaux, Thievres, Forceville, Mailly, Mesnil, Les Masures, Thiennes and Pont Remy. In 1916 it is also recorded at Fosse, Glomenghem, Faucquenhem, Ames, Novelles Les Vermelles, Lieres, Noyelles Les Vermilles, Les Brebis, Lespesses and Ecquedecques. In 1917 it is also recorded at Calonne, Witternesse, Bergueneuse, Boubers, Grouches, Lucheux, Bavincourt, Semincourt, Simencourt and Boiry-Le-Mont. In 1918 it is also recorded at Anzin, Gauchin-Legal, Simcoe Camp, Ecoivres, Aubigny, Wailly, Le Fermont, Boisleaux Au Mont, Arras and Saudemont.
