Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the 416 Field Company Royal Engineers, Divisional Troops, 56th Division, covering May 1916 to May 1919 across 514 pages. It names 61 places across 87 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries two reports, narratives and plans, four Operation Orders and four appendices. Among the papers are: March Table issued with 167th Brigade operation order to 59 of the 10th Sheet; Entraining Table issued with 167th Bde operation order No. 61.The diary opens at Sars Les Bois on 1 May 1916. 1916 is the most travelled year, 36 places against 25 in the next busiest, and is spent at Bayencourt, Mondicourt, Hebuterne, Fonqueveillers and Souastre. 1917 is spent at Lebucquiere, Sombrin, Serques, Gouves Lens 3.H.6.6 and Est Mont. 1918 at Mons, Quevy Le Petit, Marquion, Sars Le Bruyare and Tinques. 1919 at Jemappes and Antwerp. It closes at Antwerp on 20 May 1919. Lebucquiere is where it spent longest, 86 days, including a single unbroken stay of 86 and it came back to Bayencourt twelve separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Chateau Segard and Bronfay Farm.In 1916 it is also recorded at Sars Le Bois Souastre, Fonquevillers, St Riquier, St Riquer, Argouves, Bois De Tailles, Bronfay Farm, Citadel, Yzeux and Bettencourt. In 1917 it is also recorded at Mondicourt, Noyelette, Duisans, Arras, Frevent, Noordpeene, Steenvoorde, Ottawa Camp Ouderdom, Chateau Segard and Half Way House. In 1918 it is also recorded at Anzin, Estree Cauchie, Berneville, Maresquel, Cambligneul, Villers Sir Simon, Croisilles, Noyelles, Thiant and Saultain.
