Full colour facsimile reprint of the original First World War, War Office war diary of the 512 Field Company Royal Engineers, Divisional Troops, 56th Division, covering February 1916 to April 1919 across 101 pages. It names 78 places across 95 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries three reports, narratives and plans and two diagrams. Among the papers are: Re report of operations of New Advanced Trench; Report on New Front Line RE operation; Report on Work Done.The diary opens at Needham Market on 4 February 1916. 1916 is spent at Laventie, Sailly, Vaux Sur Somme, Duisans and Needham Market. 1917 is the most travelled year, 37 places against 26 in the next busiest, and is spent at Le Bucquiere, Agny, Simencourt, Arras and Sombrin. 1918 at Berneville, St Catherine, Blaireville, Roberts Camp and Villers Sire Nicole. 1919 at Cuesmes and Villers Sire Nicole. It closes at Cuesmes on 30 April 1919. Laventie is where it spent longest, 121 days, including a single unbroken stay of 121 and it came back to Sailly three separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include N Of Bronfay Farm, Segard Chateau and E Of Trones Wood.In 1916 it is also recorded at Southampton, Havre, Hocquincourt, Berteaucourt, Beauval, Honval, Ivergny, Souastre, Doullens and Heirment. In 1917 it is also recorded at Grand Pacquat, Les Amusories, Sains Lez Pernes, Fresnoy, Hauteville, Boffles, Ivergny, Coigneux, Guoyen Atois and Warlus. In 1918 it is also recorded at Anzin, Estree Couchie, Agnez Les, Duisans, Habarcq, Houvin H, Beugin, Batus, Arras and Ambrines.
