It names 56 places across 80 dated entries.Alongside the daily entries the volume carries 200 reports, narratives and plans, 60 Operation Orders, one appendix, one map and one diagram. Among the papers are: Orders 58th Division; Orders A/C.R.E. 58th Division; Routine order No. 1 58th Division numbered 1 to 39 (36 of them); Routine order No. 83 (T) A/C R.E. 58th Divn; Amendment No.1 to operation order No. 37; Addendum No.2 to operation order No. 39; Addendum No.3 by operation order No. 38.The diary opens at Southampton on 23 January 1917. 1917 is spent at Mory, Bavincourt, Fosseux, Ytres and Bihucourt. 1918 is the most travelled year, 34 places against 24 in the next busiest, and is spent at Beaucourt, Quierzy, Wiers, Rouez and Mouchin. 1919 at Leuze, Wiers, Antwerp and Boulogne. It closes at Boulogne on 23 June 1919. Leuze is where it spent longest, 114 days across four separate stays, including a single unbroken stay of 61 and it came back to Wiers five separate times.Trench and battlefield features named in the diary include Gurlu Wood, Chateau Walphus and Caterpillar Wood.In 1917 it is also recorded at Le Havre France, Point 3 Le Havre, Frevent M.6, Lucheux, Henu, Frohen Le Grand, Bus. Les. Artois, Bihucourt Lens II.5 J, Courcelles and Brake Camp G.b.a. In 1918 it is also recorded at Corbie, Ercheu, Chauny, Camelin, Blerancourt, Cagny, Glissy, Fort Manoir, Coulonvillers and Molliens Au-Bois.
