In Good Company: Being a Record of the 6th Machine Gun Company, AIF, 1915-1919 is a military history written by Lieutenant William A. Carne, an original officer of the unit. First published in 1937, the book records the formation, service, and wartime operations of the 6th Machine Gun Company, Australian Imperial Force, during the First World War. The company was formed in Egypt in 1916 from machine-gun sections drawn from the 21st, 22nd, 23rd, and 24th Australian Infantry Battalions. It subsequently served with the 2nd Australian Division on the Western Front in France, operating Vickers machine guns primarily in sustained-fire roles. Carne served with the company until he was captured and became a prisoner of war in August 1918. The book combines personal experience with an official-style unit history. It includes accounts of the company's operations, maps and photographs, as well as a named honour roll and a nominal roll of its members.
