Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

A substantial work of philosophical and symbolic interpretation, Morals and Dogma presents Albert Pike's reflections on the teachings, structure, and intellectual traditions associated with the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. The text is organised according to the degrees of the Scottish Rite, with each section offering commentary on the themes, symbols, and moral ideas associated with that level. Pike draws on a wide range of sources, including classical philosophy, religious texts, historical traditions, and comparative symbolism, presenting a work that extends beyond fraternal instruction into broader questions of ethics, belief, and intellectual development.Rather than functioning as a procedural manual, the work serves as an extended meditation on the meaning and interpretation of symbolic systems. Pike's approach reflects the nineteenth-century interest in synthesis, bringing together diverse strands of philosophical and religious thought in an attempt to articulate a unified moral and intellectual framework. The result is a text that has been read both within and beyond Masonic contexts, valued for its scope and ambition as well as for its place in the history of esoteric and philosophical writing.
