Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Death at the Excelsior and Others gathers P. G. Wodehouse's early mystery, comic, and adventure stories in a lively collection that shows his range beyond the world of Jeeves and Blandings. The title story, "Death at the Excelsior," presents a hotel mystery involving sudden death, suspicion, and detection, while the other stories move through schemes, mistaken identities, romantic complications, criminal plots, and the brisk comic situations that made Wodehouse one of the most beloved writers of the twentieth century. These stories show Wodehouse working with popular magazine forms of his day: crime fiction, light adventure, farce, romance, and humorous social comedy. Even when the machinery of mystery or suspense is in motion, the real pleasure lies in the sharp timing, verbal wit, cheerful absurdity, and lightly satirical eye that became his unmistakable signature. The collection offers readers a glimpse of Wodehouse as a versatile storyteller before and beyond his most famous series characters. For readers of classic British humor, Golden Age mystery, comic short fiction, and early twentieth-century magazine stories, Death at the Excelsior and Others is an entertaining and revealing volume. It captures Wodehouse's gift for turning danger, confusion, and social embarrassment into polished comic entertainment.
