Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Although many issues of the newspaper are missing, especially during the Civil War years, Mrs. Wearmouth nonetheless provides a second volume packed with information. The articles abstracted in this work provide the reader with a glimpse of many aspects of daily life in the county. Typical newspaper accounts of marriages, births, deaths, court cases, executions of wills and estates, property transactions, licenses, and elections are abstracted. The author also succinctly summarizes accounts of local importance, such as prizes awarded at agricultural fairs; the subjects discussed by the literary debating society; extraordinary weather, produce and livestock; societies and organizations; licenses; elections; public announcements; and more. The second volume of abstracts provides a great resource for genealogists and historians. The index lists all names found in the text.
