Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

New surge of interest in the intersection of race and gender since the presidential election This will be considered the definitive collection on contemporary Black Studies/Black feminism. There are a few anthologies of womanist or Black feminist theory, but this is the only one that reviews the past thirty years of thought on race and gender. Hugely popular contributors collected in one volume, including Angela Davis, June Jordan, Audre Lorde, Alice Walker, Barbara Christian, Cheryl Clarke, and bell hooks. The editors are among the founders of the field and are internationally recognized for their long and careful work in Black women's studies. This is the sequel to But Some of Us Are Brave, a Feminist Press classic, which has sold over 31,000 copies since its publication. The construction and introduction of Still Brave provides thematic interpretation of the development of this discipline. Its chronological organization within thematic sections invites understanding of the field's evolution and expansion. Before her death Nellie Y. McKay, a well-known African-American academic, asked Frances Smith Foster and Beverly Guy-Sheftall join Stanlie M. James to complete the project.
