Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Odyssey of the Voice takes readers on a journey through the evolution of the voice, from pre-history through the acquisition of language to the use of the voice as an expression of self. The historical journey of the voice helps us to understand the tool that enables us to communicate. This book encompasses everything from the psychological to the physiological; from explaining the care of the voice, including vocal abuse and damage, to celebrating the human voice's highest achievements. After exploring what we know about the voice, Dr. Abitbol examines what he describes as the magic of the voice: the voice as a fingerprint, a reflection of our personality. This magic is revealed in what we do with the voice and how we use it; from the performer's voice to the aging voice, from the use of the voice by the ventriloquist to the use of the voice in expressing our sex and sexuality.
