Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Down in the lowlands of South Carolina the only thing folks are worried about is planting their crops and praying they have a good year: A young white farmer, his Indian wife and their daughters are confronted with separation. He must leave them and go fight in a war he hates and doesn't believe in. A war that's supposed to free the slaves. A war between the North and the South. Ebenezer and Eliza Miller never went to school, and know nothing about politics or the way the government works. Eliza is a visionary, with her special gift she can see things that will happen. After he leaves, she has a vision that shows her changes she must make to keep herself and her girls safe. Being Indian she believes in the spirits and can feel them all around her. After she learns that Eb and his friend are missing in the war she becomes determined to carry on day to day and face any trouble she encounters head on. She carriers her gun with her every where she goes and when horse thieves show up to steal her horses she and her aunt Ulee take matters into their own hands. Eliza is told a secret that has been kept from her for years. Her life will never be the same. As the days turn into months and then years and Sherman and his men march through ravaging the South, Eliza never lets go of the feeling that Eb is still alive...
