Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Jennifer McKeen Rodrigues' poetry fills our senses with the "Beetlejuice / dining set," "oniony bedroom carpet," and "decades of recorded sermons" she notices as she visits twenty-four estate sales. Through research, imagination, and encounters with ghosts, her poems bring to life the people whose "secrets live in what you leave behind." Rodrigues' commentary is witty yet loving, as she tells us, "the myth of life / escapes through / a cardboard tube," and "In lieu of sending flowers to her grave site, / grow your own & keep close ties to the people in your life." -Joanne Durham, author, To Drink from a Wider BowlThe first poem, perfectly placed, sets up this intriguing chapbook. Jennifer Rodrigues, able to lift the thin veil between life and death, brings estates, their contents and occupants, back to life in amazing detail. Everyday events, family secrets, longings, and regrets fill these pages as the poet takes us with her up and down staircases, from top floors to basements, to backyards and garages. Her last lines in each poem are like doors closing, but the ghosts remain. This reader will never look at estate sales the same way again. Rodrigues' debut is a thoughtful poetic study, an astute, inside look into not only other people's lives, but our own. -Lynn Tait, author, You Break It You Buy ItEstate Sale is a tapestry woven of spiritual longing. When walking through the stanzas this poet has built, one is aware of the vulnerability of the Self and the myriad ways in which human experience reverberates. Grounded, supernatural, captivating, and deeply connected to the Universe and its mysteries, these poems illuminate the mind. I celebrate Rodrigues' energetic voice; a true original! -Caroline Goodwin, author, Old Snow, White Sun and Matanuska
