Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Tribology is the interdisciplinary science of interacting surfaces in relative motion. It comprises the study of friction, wear, and lubrication, which are critical for the performance and longevity of mechanical systems. Friction is the resistance to motion when two surfaces slide against each other, leading to energy loss as heat. Wear involves the gradual removal of material from surfaces due to mechanical action, impacting the efficiency and lifespan of components. Lubrication aims to reduce friction and wear by introducing a substance, typically a fluid or semi-solid, between the surfaces. Tribology is vital in various industries, including automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, and bioengineering. In automotive engineering, for example, understanding tribology is essential for designing efficient engines and reducing fuel consumption. In manufacturing, it ensures the longevity of machinery and tools, while in bioengineering, it informs the development of prosthetics and implants with low wear rates. Advancements in tribology lead to improved material performance, energy efficiency, and economic savings. This book is a valuable compilation of topics, ranging from the basic to the most complex advancements in the field of tribology. For all those who are interested in tribology, this book can prove to be an essential guide.
