Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

The uprising was one of the key moments for Kurdistan. It showed the willingness of the region to stand up to oppression, and demonstrated the unity that is vital to any progress for Kurdistan. In this volume, the former President of Kurdistan, Masoud Barzani, discusses the vital period between 1991 and 2002, detailing the achievements and setbacks of that phase of Kurdistan's struggle. It is a period that takes in both Gulf wars, the fall of Saddam in Iraq, and Kurdistan's brutal civil war. Here, Mr. Barzani details the key decisions of the time, decisions he faced, and which often meant life or death for the Kurdish people. He shows the ways in which international pressures and internal politics impacted on these crucial situations. He details the efforts of the Peshmerga, the public, and the politicians. This book is also a treasure trove of historical documents, containing significant archival material from the time, translated for perhaps the first time. The combination of those with Mr. Barzani's thoughts provides a significant level of insight into the period, and one that cannot be ignored.
