Kurzbeschreibung des Verlags

Spiritual Skating is an unusual and deeply personal exploration of the meeting point between spirituality and ordinary life. Written by Australian rabbi, teacher, and writer, Dovid Tsap, the book uses skateboarding as a lens through which to examine themes of fear, suffering, discipline, ego, freedom, resilience, meaning, and the search for God within the material world.Part memoir, part spiritual reflection, and part philosophical meditation, the book traces the author's unexpected return to skateboarding in adulthood after years immersed in the Jewish mystical traditions of Chassidut and Kabbalah. Through a series of uncanny encounters and seemingly providential events, skateboarding became not merely a sport, but a vehicle for physical healing, emotional renewal, self-discovery, and spiritual insight.Drawing heavily upon Torah thought, Chassidic teachings, and Jewish mysticism - while also engaging broader human experience - Spiritual Skating presents short, accessible reflections rooted in real skateboarding experiences: learning to fall, confronting fear, enduring injury, balancing risk and control, pushing through frustration, and finding moments of transcendence in motion. Yet the book is not ultimately about skateboarding itself. Rather, skateboarding serves as a metaphor and "garment" through which broader truths about life and Divine service are explored. At its heart, the book asks whether God can be encountered not only in prayer, study, and sacred spaces, but also in the seemingly mundane activities of everyday life. In the spirit of the verse, "Know Him in all your ways" (Proverbs 3:6), Spiritual Skating invites readers to reconsider the relationship between Heaven and Earth, spirituality and physicality, holiness and ordinary existence.Blending autobiographical storytelling, mystical thought, humour, vulnerability, and philosophical depth, Spiritual Skating speaks not only to skateboarders, but to anyone seeking meaning, growth, and authenticity within the complexities of modern life.
