There are hundreds of books on the topic of becoming a millionaire. Some of the authors are well regarded and are themselves multi-millionaires. There are also number of strategies such as investing shares and property investment for becoming millionaire. Many of these require leverage of funds from financial institutions as strategies for investments. As we come from middle class families with no financial background, we lacked the courage and strategies that were promoted by others. Also, we started earning money quite late (31 and 28 years) in our lives as we were both busy in getting education (BSc, MSc, PhD and MBA).Without following any specific strategy, but rather following a combination of steps, over 20+ years, we have been successful in becoming millionaires and we have decided to share our experience here. We think our experience will be valuable for others from middle class, especially, if they start to follow our strategies from early stages of life, which revolve around constantly reducing and optimising spending, a strategy we call "Slow Spending".Our financial journey really started when we moved to Australia in February 2001. At the age of 38 and 35, we moved to Australia from Denmark, with some cash that we had saved, but with no intention of becoming millionaires. When we got to Australia, our aim was simply to own our own home, raise family and save some money on the side for rainy days and regular travel back to our folks in India and Ireland. Along the way, we were frugal, bought and sold some properties, got lucky in getting decent jobs and somehow created a financial security for us. It took us many years, and we took some steps inadvertently that fuelled our financial success. In this book we have tried to dig deep into what has happened that has led to our financial freedom. In 2025, at the age of 61, when Ranjan decided to stop working and found plenty of spare time, we decided to put together our story so that others could benefit from our simple strategies. We believe there is a unique recipe for becoming a millionaire within each one of us. How we go about finding and optimising that recipe depends on each one of us. How we are brought up, how we educate ourselves, how we earn and spend, will determine how we go about becoming millionaires. Perhaps, this book will encourage others to follow strategies like ours and find themselves becoming financially independent and enjoying the life the way we are.
